Fraterfest 2012: Name That Vampire! on The Fabled Crossroads!

Hello everyone,

This is Kody Boye, the editor of The Fabled Crossroads. I'm posting this quick notice to let you know that Fraterfest, the October read-a-long of author Rhiannon Frater's books, has officially begun! From now until Monday the 8th, sixty bloggers (myself not included) will be taking part in a blog tour dedicated to Rhiannon's books. To find out more information, please click on the button below.

Now, without further ado, my challenge is...

NAME THAT VAMPIRE!

The goal of this challenge is to try and correctly name as many of the vampires or vampiric figures in this list as possible. There is only one right answer for each question.

In a TV series or film...

1. Who is the vampire that is named off of a winged creature?

2. Who is the vampress who was driven to insanity before she was killed and brought back to life as a vampire?

3. Where did the film 30 Days of Night take place?

4. What is the name of the foreign vampire film (and now the American remake) that was based off a Swedish novel?

5. Who wrote the novel that inspired the film Interview with the Vampire?

You thought fictional vampires were scary? Well, think again -- there were actually people in history who claimed to be vampires, who drank their blood, or whose habits resembled those of the undead.

In history...

6. Who was the man that inspired Bram Stoker to create Dracula?

7. Who was the woman who was called a vampire after she bathed in the blood of virgins?

8. Who was the Russian man (famed for his association with a royal family) who was rumored to be a vampire due to his supposed healing abilities after he cured a young boy of hemophilia?

9. What and when was the first vampire movie made?

10. What God in Greek mythology created the first supposed ‘vampire’ by cursing him so that his ‘skin would burn should it ever touch sunlight again?’

Now if you've got those questions answered, let us know a few things about vampires only you would know...

A. Who is your favorite vampire and why?

B. If you had to pick to be in a world where vampires were violent and eagerly hunted and killed humans, which would it be and why? (Can be any fictional world from a book, movie, TV series, play, etc.)

C. If you had to pick only one traditional item to protect you from a vampire (cross, garlic, holy water, etc.,) what would it be and why?

You may leave all your answers below with the corresponding numbers in your comment below.

Thank you for participating in the Name that Vampire! challenge on The Fabled Crossroads for Fraterfest 2012! A. I'm old fashioned, Dracula for me. :)
    B. Blade please
    C. I'd go with silver but I'm not sure what kind of weapon, something with good range, I don't fancy getting up close and personal with the vampire.

    A. Armand from the Vampire Chronicles. I have to have my auburn haired angel.
    B. Hmm maybe Anita Blake's world?
    C. Ready for this? A large bag of rice...in lore they always seem to have to count large quantities of things, so what better way to get away than to distract them a giant bag of rice? On second thought, that sounds so ridiculous so a stake would be fine.

Awesome questions!! I love vampires and I never get the chance to show off my knowledge, so this was fun. :)

Thanks for the challenge, it's been fun! Happy reading-- Book Savvy Babe

    1. I definitely agree with a silver-coated stake! Not only is it good for vampires, but it will also protect you from werewolves (my exact thoughts when I hunted for a cross pendant that had silver around it, haha.)

    A. My Favorite Vampire…dude that may be one of the hardest questions for me to answer. I love so many of them so much! Had you asked me as a teenager I would have almost definitely answered Edward Cullen. Now…not so much…I like my vamps less sparkily…Probably Jean Claude from Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series.
    B. Hmm…Most of the worlds that I’ve seen have vampires trying to live their lives alongside humans…Idk…maybe Buffy the Vampire Slayer? As long as I got to be a member of the Scooby Gang!
    C. Holy Water…I would drink it, bathe in it, and keep a pool full of it in my backyard…then anytime a vampire was attacking BAM…time for a moonlight swim 
Thanks for hosting this part of the challenge! I had a little trouble with some of the questions but was surprised at how much I actually know about vamps #nerd moment :D

    3. Barrow, Alaska
    4. Let Me In (Very creepy!)
    5. Anne Rice (hate the movies, LOVEEE Lestat in the books though!)
    6. Vlad the Impaler
    7. Elizabeth Bathory
    8. Rasputin
    9. Nosferatu- 1922
    10. Apollo

    A) LESTAT! He is what a vampire should be- creepy, sexy, and utterly desirable/ dangerous. Granted, this is FICTIONAL Lestat, not movie Tom Cruise Lestat. Yuck.

    B) The Vampire Knight world. Seriously, if there's a chance of me meeting Zero, I'm going to take it lol.

C)Cross. They can be great accesories, and easier to get ahold of than Holy Water, and Garlic just smells bad :P

This was fun! Thanks for the challenge!

  12. Wow, not gonna lie I had to google some of these! :D Some of the history ones I knew from the good old History Channel! :D

    1. Angel from Buffy

    2. Drusilla from Buffy was driven to insanity by Angel

    3. Alaska

    4. Let The Right One in by John Ajvide Lindqvist / American Remake: Let Me In by John Ajvide Lindqvist

    5. Anne Rice

    -------------------------------------------------------

    6. Vlad the Impaler

    7. Elizabeth Bathory

    8. Rasputin

    9. Nosferatu was made in 1922

    10. Apollo cursed Ambrogio

    --------------------------------
    A. Lestat or Louis from Anne Rice's books is a tie for me. I love both of them because they are so elegant and they are struggling for their humanity in the midst of their vampirism and their place in this world so obviously, sometimes it's heartbreaking. I think it's something every PERSON can relate to at one time or another.

    B. I think I would choose to be in The Hunt by Julie Kagawa - because at least when I was by myself I could laugh at how ridiculous the vampires were. I'd also feel closer to any humans I did know, because we'd be the minority and have to stick together as best as possible to survive.

    C. Wow, THIS is a tough question for sure because really who knows what's going to protect you. I think of all the traditional items I would want a stake. I'd feel much more comfortable carrying around a weapon than some vial of holy water or a cross, which I don't think personally would be THAT useful! I'd want something that could do actual physical damage! [made myself sound quite violent there didn't I...] :D

  13. I'm posting this for Pabkin's (she sent it to me from her iPad - she wasn't able to save her comment from there)

    1. Angel from Buffy
    2. Don't know
    3. Alaska
4 Let the Right one In (Swedish) Let me In (American)
    5. Anne Rice
    6. Vlad the Impaler
    7. Elizabeth Bathory
    8. Rasputin
    9. Nosferatu, don't know
    10. Apollo

    A. Ivy from Kim Harrison's books. Because she is such a kick ass cool chick
    B. V Wars by Jonathan Maberry because there are a lot of different vampires and what type of vampire you become depends on your genetic ethnic background.
    C. A wooden stake because I'm not religious so I don't think those holy items would work for me, and not garlic because I like to eat it but I don't want to smell like it. Plus at least the stake gives me a chance to kill it not just repel it.

  14. Oh my goodness! These are more difficult than I expected.
    1) Angel! (LOVE!)
    2) Drusilla (one of my favorite characters on Buffy)
    4) Let the Right One In
    5) Anne Rice
    10) Apollo

    A) Um...I'd still have to say that Edward probably takes the cake as far as Vampire's go. But book Edward, not movie Edward. I could do without the shiny bits though. Most of my fictional character crushes actually aren't vampires. Although....I might also say Michael from Underworld even though he's a hybrid.

    B) Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy is probably my favorite (or 2nd favorite) vampire world...but only half the vampires are evil...so I might say Underworld again. Blade's cool too.

    C) I'd love to say stake to the heart or decapitation, but truthfully that'd probably get me dead a lot faster than it it would them! So...a cross would be really convenient!

This was definitely a fun challenge, and good tough questions.

    A. Tough choice...as I have love for several vamp hotties. I'm gonna have to go with Angel though. After all, it was his story (both on Buffy and later on Angel) that ignited my love of all things paranormal romance fiction.

    B. I'd definitely pick the Twilight world or the Vampire Diaries (show) world where not ALL vampires are evil. Where some are still choosing to maintain their humanity.

    C. Garlic would just be stinky....holy water is not realistic to pull out of a purse quick enough to cause damage, and I don't wear clothes that could conceal a stake easily. So definitely would have to go with a cross, always wearing it closest to my neck.

Thanks for the challenge! It was fun!
